After a project ends successfully you will have the option to download your backer’s data as a CSV file that can then be opened in Excel, Numbers, or any spreadsheet program. If you don't have one yet, Google Drive is available to all, and has a free, compatible spreadsheet program. Check out their help section to get started.
The downloaded backer report will include each backer’s profile name, backer number, email address, and their pledge details, including their shipping country. If you used Kickstarter’s backer survey tool to collect information for fulfilling rewards, such as their shipping address and reward item preferences, this information will populate in the exported backer report too.
For creators using Kickstarter’s Pledge Manager tool, the exported backer report will also include any additional items backers have added to their order, as well as any shipping and taxes they may have paid.
Please note: Data in the backer report is likely to change for 7 days after your campaign ends successfully, while we work to collect pledges. After that period concludes, the backer report will continue to change as backers submit their survey or pledge manager responses, edit their shipping address before this is locked, or if a backer is refunded.
The downloaded backer report allows you to organize and sort the information to meet your needs, you can:
- Sort and reorder by backer number, rewards, add-ons, pledge amount, shipping country, date of pledge, etc. This makes it easy to count and view different rewards, such as how many signed copies of your book you'll need, and so on.
- Make changes to backer information. If you need to update the shipping address, reward preference, or something else outside of Kickstarter, make a note of it in the spreadsheet so that all the information is kept together.
- Add additional fields for any other data you may want to store. For example, you could create fields to note when you have packed and shipped rewards.
These are just a few examples of what you can do with the exported backer report, but you can organize and edit it to work for you.
How will my backers’ information be displayed in the download?
The downloaded backer report will list each backer alongside their pledge details, with one backer per row. Column A will show you their backer number, and in column E you’ll see their shipping country.
Column F is the base reward tier the backer pledged for, with column O onwards listing any additional information collected. This may include any pledge management details, tax information, and add-ons that may have been added to their pledge. This will be followed by the items associated with each reward tier and add-on. An item could appear within multiple reward tiers, as well as in an add-on, so this is essentially checking off each item, and what quantity needs to be included with each pledge.
For example, a backer may have selected a base reward tier that included the item “Vinyl album”, and then also opted to add an extra two of this item as an add-on. As this backer’s pledge now includes three of the item “Vinyl album”, that number will be listed in the relevant item’s column on the backer export.
Survey response time stamps and shipping address, if collected, will be available after the add-on and item counts. Item customization questions will appear in a column for each SKU. All SKUs appear after the survey response columns for visibility into which SKUs each backer selected.
