Using custom referral tags for your campaign will allow you to see which of your marketing activities brought backers to your project page, as well as the number of successful backings that are attributed to a particular marketing source (using a particular link).
If your project hasn't launched yet you can set up your custom referral tags on the Promotion tab of your project editor. For a project that has already launched you can set this up through your creator dashboard, located on the left-hand side of your project page.
Once you’ve customized the name of a referral tag, for example ‘Twitter campaign’, and clicked the “Generate Tag” button, you’ll be given a unique URL to use for sharing your project.
Any results from your custom referral tags will be displayed on the dashboard page. This will include the number of pledges generated, % of total funds accounted for, and total amount pledged. Link clicks are not included in these results. If you're interested in this data, we would recommend setting up Google Analytics for your project.
Please note: As per our Privacy Policy, we are not able to provide any additional data than what is necessary for a creator to communicate with backers about their project, and fulfill their rewards. This includes data on dropped pledges, and their associated referral tags.
Can I create custom referral tags before my project launches?
Yes! You can create custom referral tags ahead of launching your project on the Promotion tab of your project editor.
Is there a limit on how many custom ref tags I can add?
The current limit is 20,000.
