We are asking creators for their demographic information to help us evaluate and improve upon our diversity and inclusion efforts, and to provide creators with relevant and useful service offerings. Learning more about our creators helps us provide better products, as well as reach our goals of creating a diverse creator community and delivering an equitable platform.
What will you do with my demographic information?
We’ll only use your information in connection with our efforts for making the Kickstarter platform equitable and available to all. We review the data from the survey in an aggregate, de-identified way to track demographic trends and identify ways that we may better be able to serve the creator community. Additionally, where we have permission, we’ll use the information in an identifiable way to communicate additional services that may be available, such as connecting creators with funding sources.
We won’t share information that directly identifies you with third parties unless you grant us permission. For information about how we protect personal information, see the our Privacy Policy.
How do I provide my demographic information?
At the bottom of the People tab of your project editor, you’ll notice a prompt to answer a series of questions about yourself and your project. This section is entirely optional and isn’t a requirement for launching a project on Kickstarter. If you choose to complete this section, you’ll have the chance to tell us about yourself and your project, which will help us evaluate the effectiveness of our diversity and inclusion efforts within the creator community.
To complete this section, simply click the “Go to questions” button. There are approximately 38 questions that ask about your campaign preparedness and demographic information.
After submitting your answers, this section will no longer appear in the People tab. You can’t edit your answers after submitting them, but you can email dpo@kickstarter.com if you’d like us to delete the provided information.
