When building the rewards for your project, you can set the availability based on time, quantity, and audience. By limiting the audience of a reward to select backers only, you will be creating a Secret Reward. This reward could be for folks who follow you on social media, subscribe to your Patreon, or those who have supported you on Kickstarter since the start.
How do I create a Secret Reward?
To set a reward as a Secret Reward, simply choose “Select backers only (Secret Reward)” for 'Audience' under the ‘Availability’ section when creating the reward. You can set both reward tiers and add-ons to be Secret Rewards. After the reward has been saved, you can go ahead and share the unique link provided for that specific reward with your backers.
When your project is live, those backers can then use that unique private link to access and pledge to the Secret Reward. These rewards won’t be visible to anyone accessing your project page without one of the unique links.
For a backer to be able to access and pledge to both a secret reward tier and a secret add-on they will need to make sure that they click the unique link for both. After a unique link is opened the associated reward will be visible to them.
What can Secret Rewards be used for?
Secret Rewards can be used to offer a special reward to only a select group of people. You may want to create a reward tier for your social media followers or newsletter subscribers, or as a special bulk reward tier for retail backers.
What’s the difference between a Secret Reward Tier and a Secret Add-On?
A Secret Reward Tier is a reward tier that will be hidden from your public campaign page and can only be accessed by backers who have the private link. Each reward tier that is set to be a Secret Reward will have its own unique link.
Secret Add-Ons are extra items that backers can add to their pledge, on top of their selected reward tier. Each add-on that is set to be a Secret Reward will have its own unique link and will only be available to backers who access your project page via this link.
Please note that a backer must first select a base reward tier in order to include any add-ons in their pledge.
Can I add a Secret Reward to my Late Pledges or Kickstarter Pledge Manager?
At this time, Secret Rewards can only be made available while a campaign is live. Secret Rewards cannot be added to the Kickstarter Pledge Manager or offered as a Late Pledge reward.
Is it possible to change the availability of a Secret Reward?
Once a reward is created as a Secret Reward it won’t be possible to change this. Instead, we recommend duplicating the reward and making sure the availability settings for the new reward are set to “All backers”.
Will backers with one Secret Reward link be able to access all Secret Rewards?
No, each Secret Reward will have a unique link. If your project features multiple Secret Rewards, backers will only be able to see the reward that is associated with the unique link they have received. To view all Secret Rewards, the backer will need to click on each unique link.
Please note: Backers will need to be logged in to their Kickstarter account in order to view and pledge to a Secret Reward. At this time Secret Rewards are only available when pledging via desktop or mobile web.
