Yes, if you are using Kickstarter’s Pledge Manager you will have the option to send digital rewards to backers through the backer report. You can send rewards as a digital file, code, or URL.
To send something to a single backer through the backer report, simply click the three dots under the gear icon for that backer and select the action you wish to take. When multiple backers are selected, you will see a menu appear at the bottom of the screen showing you the available bulk actions.
Digital files
For rewards that require uploading and distributing a digital file, you can do this through Kickstarter by uploading digital files and attaching them to the relevant rewards. To start, select ‘Digital files’ from the creator navigation bar, located on the left side of your project page.
- On the Digital files page, click the “Upload a file” button
- In the modal that opens up, select your file to begin the upload
- Your file must be a PDF, PNG, JPG, MP3, MP4, ZIP, STL, or ePub, no larger than 1 GB
- Please note that the maximum storage limit per project is 2 GB
Next, select from one of the two distribution methods for your file:
- Automatic: It will be automatically sent to the relevant backers as they complete the pledge manager. This will require selecting which items and SKUs to attach the file to.
- Manually: You will manually send this to backers who have completed your project’s pledge manager, whenever you are ready, through the backer report.
Remember: If you select to distribute the file automatically, you will need to select from the dropdown menu which of your project’s items and SKUs the file should be attached to.
- Add a name for your digital file, along with any instructions, if applicable
- Click the “Save” button to finish adding your digital file
You will be able to keep track of all digital files, and how many backers have downloaded each one, on the Digital files page for your project.
If you need to replace a digital file you can do so at any time. When a file is replaced, backers will automatically lose access to the old version but gain access to the new one.
When a digital file is sent, either automatically or manually, each backer will receive an email notification to let them know that their files are available. They can then view and download these from the ‘Digital rewards’ tab of their Pledge summary page. Currently, backers will have access to their digital files for two years from the date of distribution.
Digital codes and URLs
If your project included digital rewards that only require a code or URL to access, you will have the option to send these within the backer report as either unique or shared access.
When sending a unique access code or URL to multiple backers at once, make sure to separate each entry with a comma, and only add one unique access code or URL per recipient. For example, if you are sending digital reward codes to 10 backers, only enter 10 unique codes. If you wish to send a unique access code to a specific backer, you will need to send this to them individually.
For a shared access code or URL, simply add this to the modal and it will be sent to all selected backers.
Once sent, we will send the backers an email with their digital reward code or URL and any instructions, if included. They can also find this on the ‘Digital rewards’ tab of their Pledge summary page.
