We understand that having to pay a surprise tariff on rewards imported to the US can have a negative impact on your budget and cause unexpected delays to your project timeline.
For creators using the Kickstarter Pledge Manager, we’ve created the Tariff Manager to help you apply a tariff surcharge to backer’s orders and offset some of the costs. To enable the Tariff Manager, you’ll see a banner at the top of the pledge manager page that gives you the option to submit a form to request access to this tool. If accepted, we’ll enable the Tariff Manager for your project, and you’ll see a tariff surcharge field for each item, within the tax and tariff section of your pledge manager.
Backers will see the total tariff surcharge they are being charged at checkout and on the order confirmation email they receive.
Please note: At this time, tariff surcharges may only be applied to backers with a US shipping address.
What happens if a backer can’t pay the tariff surcharge?
If a backer chooses not to pay the tariff surcharge when completing their pledge manager, they’ll need to reach out to you directly to explore their options. This may be by adjusting their pledge, issuing a refund, or finding another resolution.
If you are not eligible to use the Kickstarter Pledge Manager, you will need to find an alternative arrangement to collect tariff surcharges from your backers.
