Pledge Over Time is a flexible payment option that allows you to split your pledge into 3 payments, making it easier to support the projects you love. By reducing the upfront cost, Pledge Over Time lets you back premium rewards and manage your budget more effectively. There are no extra fees, third-party signups, or interest-bearing loans—just a simple way to pledge with more flexibility.
How does Pledge Over Time work?
With Pledge Over Time, you can split your pledge into 3 equal payments. The first charge will occur when the project ends successfully. The remaining 2 payments are then collected automatically each month until your pledge total is paid in full. For example, a campaign ending on June 1st would split your pledge into 3 payments, on June 1st, July 1st, and August 1st.
You’ll see the payment schedule for your pledge at checkout, so that you know how much is due and the date of each payment. You can also view the status of your Pledge Over Time pledge at any time by viewing the pledge summary for a project on your Backed projects page.
Please note: Pledge Over Time is currently unavailable for Late Pledges. Additionally, for projects using Kickstarter’s Pledge Manager, you will only be able to access this once the full amount of your pledge has been successfully collected.
How do I choose Pledge Over Time at checkout and what’s the criteria?
If a creator has enabled Pledge Over Time for their project, and your pledge total is the minimum amount, or higher, for their project’s currency, Pledge Over Time will be available at checkout. If your pledge total is below this amount, the option to Pledge Over Time will not be available.

When pledging to a campaign that offers Pledge Over Time, you’ll see two options at checkout:
- Pledge in full: You will be charged the full amount of your pledge when the project ends successfully.
- Pledge Over Time: Your pledge will be split into 3 equal payments, with the first payment taking place when the project ends successfully.
How are payments collected and when am I charged?
When you pledge using Pledge Over Time, your payment method will be automatically charged in 3 equal payments:
- First charge: Collected immediately when the campaign ends successfully.
- Remaining 2 charges: Payment will be collected each month, one at a time, until your full pledge amount is paid.
This means all payments should be completed within 2 months of the campaign’s deadline.
Can I edit my pledge while the campaign is still live?
Yes! You can edit your pledge amount or change your reward selection at any time while the campaign is live. You can also change your payment plan from Pledge in full to Pledge Over Time, or vice versa, without the need to cancel and re-pledge.
Can I change my payment method for remaining charges?
Payment methods cannot be changed once a campaign has ended. However, if one of your payment attempts fails, you can update your payment method for the remainder of your charges (see next question).
What happens if a payment fails?
If a payment attempt fails, Kickstarter will notify you to fix your payment within 7 days for charge 1, and 14 days for charges 2 and 3. If you don’t fix a payment in time, any payments you’ve already made may be considered bonus support for the creator. Refunds of these payments will be up to the creator's discretion.
If you’re interested in having any of the collected payments for your pledge refunded, you’ll need to reach out to the creator directly. Currently, partial refunds (for add-ons, shipping, etc) are not supported for Pledge Over Time pledges.
I selected Pledge Over Time for a project, when can I access the pledge manager?
For projects using Kickstarter’s Pledge Manager, you will be able to access this after all charges are complete. We require creators to keep their project’s pledge manager open for a minimum of 3 weeks for all backers, as such you will have at least 3 weeks to complete this once the full amount of your pledge has been collected successfully.
