A project video is not required to launch, but we do see that projects with compelling videos tend to succeed at a much higher rate. We recommend adding a video that introduces who you are, what you are raising the funds for, why it is important to you, and how you plan to bring your project to life.
Your project video can be added to the Basics tab of your project editor and should be a MOV, MPEG, AVI, MP4, 3GP, WMV, or FLV, no larger than 5120 MB.
Visit our Creator Handbook to learn more about telling your story, and watch our tutorial for tips on how to make a great project video.
Do I also need to add a ‘Discovery Mode’ video?
A ‘Discovery Mode’ video isn’t a requirement, but to help backers discover your project on our iOS and Android apps we recommend adding a short, mobile-friendly video in addition to your project video. These videos will appear in a dedicated feed within the app.
The ‘Discovery Mode’ video can be added to the Basics tab of your project editor and should be a MOV, MPEG, AVI, MP4, 3GP, WMV, or FLV, with a 9:16 aspect ratio (vertical). The video should be no larger than 5120 MB.
What are some best practices for my ‘Discovery Mode’ video?
We recommend keeping this video short and simple. Think of it as a one-on-one moment with your audience. We suggest using real people holding or talking about your project, instead of a highly produced edit or voiceover.
Aim to keep this video between 60-90 seconds long, with clear audio. If you can, consider also adding captions so that it works with or without sound.
If you’re adapting this video from your horizontal video, make sure faces, products, and any on-screen text are not cut off. Avoid placing key visuals or text along the edges, where UI elements may overlap.
You may want to consider using an existing video from your social media. Keep in mind that during the review process our team will review this video too, so make sure that it is relevant to your campaign.
