I’m a creator, why did I receive a chargeback notice?
Chargebacks are a form of consumer protection that most credit card issuing banks provide to their customers for cases of fraud, dissatisfaction with a purchase, or other issues.
For guidance on how to proceed during the process, please refer to the information provided in the chargeback notes that you received via email.
I’m a backer, why did I receive a chargeback notice?
Chargebacks are generally initiated by the cardholder and/or card issuer. That said, if the dispute was made in error we recommend you reach out directly to your bank and advise them that you'd like to drop this dispute.
For guidance on how to proceed during the process, please contact your card issuer directly.
What is Kickstarter’s role during the dispute process?
In the event a backer decides to file a chargeback with their card issuer, Kickstarter will notify the creator of the project and give them an opportunity to share any relevant information about this issue. The creator will have 7 days from the date they receive the chargeback notice to respond before the submission window is automatically closed.
We’ll then forward the information to the card issuer, clarify how Kickstarter works, and share our Terms of Use.
At the end, the card issuer will weigh in on the backer’s side and the creator's side with their own policies to make a decision on the final outcome.
