Identity verification helps to ensure that there is a real person behind every project on Kickstarter.
Being a creator is a serious endeavor – verifying that you are who you say you are strengthens the integrity of the Kickstarter system. It also protects you by preventing someone else from running a project under your name. Please note that ID verification is a mandatory step in each individual project.
In the Payment tab of your project editor, you will be asked to enter your legal name and address to verify your identity. In some cases, we may request additional information via email. As such, we recommend factoring in a few extra days for the verification process when planning your project’s launch timeline.
When running a 2nd or 3rd project, please factor in verification time regarding your launch, as it must be completed even though the ID has been verified for a previous project.
It’s not possible to edit the verified identity on an account once a project has launched. However, we understand that in certain scenarios a name change is required for the safety of our community. If you believe that your personal circumstances may supersede our policy, please follow the steps in this article to submit your request.
